Bibi Abel

The video artist Bibi Abel studied fine arts at the Werkkunstschule in Cologne and then completed further training as a multimedia developer. She was a member of the artist duo fuck yourself service with a focus on video and installation. She has worked across genres at theatres in Graz, Zurich, Düsseldorf, Essen, Bochum and Cologne, at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Famous Door Theater Chicago, Aalto Musiktheater and the Philharmonie Essen, at the Saarland and Hesse State Theatres, the Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen, at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, the Internationale Maifestspiele in Wiesbaden and at the Munich State Opera, the Semperoper Dresden, the Cologne and Halle Operas and regularly at the Frankfurt Opera. At the Bregenz Festival, she was responsible for the video design for "Das Rheingold" (Wagner) directed by Johannes Erath, with whom she has worked for many years. She has also worked with directors such as David Alden, David Bösch, Heike M. Götze, Agnese Cornelio, Theresa Reiber, Anselm Weber, Andreas Kriegenburg, Jan Bosse, Keith Warner, Vincent Boussard, Vera Nemirova, Tilmann Köhler, Rafael Sanchez, Brigitte Fassbaender and Barrie Kosky.
At Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Bibi Abel has already been responsible for the video design in Johannes Erath's musical collage "Vissi d'arte - A declaration of love for opera" and Bellini's "La sonnambula". In the 2023/24 season she will present her video design in Johannes Erath's direction of the world premiere of "Septembersonate" by Manfred Trojahn.
