Bogdan Baciu

The Romanian baritone Bogdan Baciu studied at the Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca. He won numerous awards at international competitions. In 2011/12 he became a member of the Opera Studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and since 2012/13 he has been part of the permanent ensemble of singers here. His repertoire includes roles such as Mozart's title role in "Don Giovanni", Rossini's Figaro ("Il barbiere di Siviglia") and Dandini ("La Cenerentola"), Donizetti's Dottore Malatesta ("Don Pasquale") and Enrico ("Lucia di Lammermoor"), Verdi's Ford ("Falstaff"), Rodrigo di Posa ("Don Carlo") and Giorgio Germont ("La traviata"), Wagner's Gunther ("Götterdämmerung") and Heerrufer ("Lohengrin"), Puccini's Marcello ("La Bohème"), Sharpless ("Madama Butterfly"). He also interpreted Escamillo (Bizet "Carmen"), Mercutio (Gounod "Roméo et Juliette") and Harlequin (R. Strauss "Ariadne auf Naxos"). Guest appearances took him to the opera houses in Strasbourg, Vilnius, Dresden, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Venice and Munich, among others. With the role of the Ghost Messenger (R. Strauss "Die Frau ohne Schatten") he made guest appearances at the Verbier Festival in 2019 under Valery Gergiev and at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden in 2023 under Kirill Petrenko.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Bogdan Baciu was most recently seen as Hérode (Massenet "Hérodiade"), Ford, Don Giovanni and Enrico. In the 2023/24 season he will be on stage here as Rodrigo di Posa, in the title role of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" and Amfortas (Wagner's "Parsifal").
