Bryony Dwyer

Before beginning her vocal training, Bryony Dwyer was a member of the Royal Australian Navy for several years. Following her vocal studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Tasmanian-born soprano's path led her to the Vienna State Opera: first as a scholarship holder of the Opera Foundation Australia and from the 2013/2014 season as an ensemble member. This was followed by an engagement at Theater Basel from 2015 to 2017. There she embodied Morgana (Handel "Alcina"), First Lady (Mozart "The Magic Flute"), Juliet (Blacher "Romeo and Juliet"), Mélisande (Dukas "Ariane et Barbe-Bleue"), Julie Jordan (Rodgers "Carousel") and Susanna (Mussorgsky "Khovanshchina"), among others. In the 2018/2019 season she was engaged at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, where she enjoyed great success as Musetta (Puccini "La Bohème") under the musical direction of Lorenzo Viotti and further embodied the First Elf (Dvořák "Rusalka"), Servilia (Mozart "La clemenza di Tito") and Jasmin (Haas "Koma"). She also made her debut with this role at the Opéra de Dijon in June 2019. At the Vienna State Opera, Bryony Dwyer was once again an ensemble member in the 2019/20 season, where she appeared as Pamina (Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte"), Musetta (Puccini's "La bohème"), in the title role of the world premiere of Albin Fries' opera "Persinette", as Giannetta (Donizetti's "L'elisir d'amore"), Barbarina (Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro"), among others. In addition, in recent years she has taken on the roles of Elvira (Rossini "L'italiana in Algeri"), Sand- und Taumännchen (Humperndinck "Hänsel und Gretel"), Mlle Juvenot (Cilea "Adriana Lecovreur"), Cinderella in the children's opera of the same name by Alma Deutscher and, among others, Najade in R. Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos".
Guest engagements have taken her to the Wuppertal Opera as Micaëla (Bizet's "Carmen"), to the Pfaffstättner Hofoper as Violetta Valéry (Verdi's "La traviata") and to the Komische Oper Berlin as Eurydice in Offenbach's "Orpheus in der Unterwelt". Bryony Dwyer will also appear in this role at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the 2023/24 season.
