Charles Castronovo
Acclaimed internationally as one of the finest lyric tenors of his generation, Charles Castronovo has performed in the world’s leading opera houses including the Royal Opera House, Opéra national de Paris, Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro Real in Madrid, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Théâtre Royale de la Monnaie, Bayerische Staatsoper, Gran Teatre del Liceu, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and many more. Born in New York, Castronovo began his career at Los Angeles Opera and was later invited to the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artists Development Program where he debuted as Beppe in the opening night performance of “Pagliacci” (Leoncavallo) opposite Placido Domingo. Since his debut, Castronovo has performed internationally in diverse repertoire across the globe’s greatest stages. Recent highlights include: his debuts as the title role of “Don Carlos” (Verdi) at Grand Théâtre de Genève; Macduff in Verdi’s “Macbeth” at the Salzburger Festspielehaus; Mario Cavaradossi in “Tosca” (Puccini) at Bayerische Staatsoper; Riccardo in “Un ballo in maschera” (Verdi) at the Metropolitan Opera, Opernhaus Zurich, and the Bayerische Staatsoper; the title role of “Ernani” (Verdi)in a concert performance with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester in November 2023; Le Chevalier des Grieux in “Manon” (Massenet) at Palau de les Arts, Roméo in Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette”at Staatsoper Unter den Linden and in concert at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées; Rodolfo in “Labohème” (Puccini) at the Metropolitan Opera, Opéra National de Paris and more.
