David Stout

David Stout has quickly established himself as one of Britain's most versatile baritones, enjoying an excellent reputation not only for his vocal abilities but also for his refined acting and charismatic stage presence. David, who formerly served as a senior chorister at Westminster Abbey, grew up in southern Africa, which inspired him to study zoology and subsequently teach biology at Epsom College before studying voice with Rudolf Piernay at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
In the 2025/26 season, he will return to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the role of Mamma Agata in Donizetti's “Prima la Mamma!” and will appear at Grange Park Opera as Alberich in “Das Rheingold.” He will also make his debut at the Royal Opera in Stockholm as Figaro in “Figaro Gets a Divorce” and perform with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Vaughan Williams' “A Sea Symphony” and with the Huddersfield Choral Society in Handel's “Messiah.”
In recent years, David Stout has been honored for his interpretations of Papageno in Simon McBurney's “The Magic Flute” (ENO), Mazeppa (‘Mazeppa’ Grange Park Opera), and Sancho Pança (“Don Quichotte” Bregenz Festival and Staatstheater Darmstadt), as well as for his Alberich (“Das Rheingold” Deutsche Oper am Rhein), Stárek in Jenůfa (Teatro dell'Opera di Roma), Bluebeard (Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle) with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Baron Jaroslav Prus in The Makropoulos Affair (Welsh National Opera), Don Pasquale (Scottish Opera), Leporello in Don Giovanni, and the title role in Figaro Gets a Divorce (Grand Théâtre de Genève). This was followed by Wolfram in Tannhäuser (Tokyo), Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde (Grange Park Opera), Barnaba in La Gioconda, Ford in Falstaff, Posa in Don Carlo, Marcello in La bohème (Scottish Opera), Roucher in Andrea Chénier (Royal Opera House), Dulcamara in L'elisir d'amore, and Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia.
