Ilya Lapich
Baritone Ilya Lapich was born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, and grew up with his family in Bolivia, where he discovered his passion for singing at an early age. He returned to his birthplace to study acting and performed his first roles at the Maxim Gorky Academic Theatre while still a student. From 2012 to 2015, he studied voice at the State Institute of Theatre Arts in Moscow. He made his professional opera debut in 2014 as Conte Robinson in Cimarosa’s “Il matrimonio Segreto” in Moscow. In 2015 and 2016, Lapich was a prize-winner at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg. As part of his training, he participated in the Young Artist Programs of the Académie de l’Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Bayreuth Festival. Since the 2018/19 season – following two seasons in the opera studio – Lapich has been an ensemble member at the National Theatre Mannheim, where his roles have included Dandini (Rossini’s “La Cenerentola”), Schaunard (Puccini’s “La Bohème”), Sid (Britten’s “Albert Herring”), Belcore (Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore”), Dr. Malatesta (Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale”), and Count Almaviva (Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro”). He has recently added Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Figaro (Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia”), and Guglielmo (Mozart’s “Così fan tutte”) to his repertoire. Guest engagements have taken him to the Immling Festival as Leporello (Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”) and the Wernigerode Castle Festival as Escamillo (Bizet’s “Carmen”); more recently, he has performed as Guglielmo and Count Almaviva at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Aalto-Theater Essen, and the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck.
In the 2026/27 season, Ilya Lapich will make a guest appearance at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as El Duque in the world premiere of James Reynolds’ “Die Mitternachtstür”.
