Mathias Tönges

Bass-baritone Mathias Tönges studied at the HMTM Hannover under Prof. Dr. Peter Anton Ling and at the opera school of the HMDK Stuttgart. Master classes with Michael Volle, Bo Skovhus, and Konrad Jarnot further enriched his training. Opera productions have taken him as a soloist to the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the National Theater in Mannheim, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Aalto Theater in Essen, the Kiel Opera, and the Stadttheater Bremerhaven, where he collaborated with conductors and directors such as Zubin Mehta, Alexander Soddy, Axel Kober, Antonio Fogliani, Robert Wilson, and Barrie Kosky. In the field of church music, Mathias Tönges regularly performs as a soloist in works by Bach, Handel, Haydn, and Mendelssohn. Together with pianist Schaghajegh Nosrati, Mathias Tönges has given recitals at events including the Heidelberger Frühling, the Ehrbar Saal in Vienna, the Hitzacker Summer Music Festival, and the Goslar International Music Festival.
In the 2026/27 season at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Mathias Tönges will appear in the as Zoltan Karpathy in “My Fair Lady” (Lerner/Loewe).
