Matthias Koziorowski

Matthias Koziorowski was born in Essen, where he studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts under Prof. KS Wolfgang Millgramm. He further broadened his musical training by participating in masterclasses with Helen Donath, Janet Williams, Olaf Bär, Anja Harteros and Andreas Homoki. He is currently coached by Prof. Thomas Heyer. After engagements as a permanent ensemble member at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, the Mecklenburg State Theatre Schwerin and the Halle Opera, he was a member of the ensemble at Graz Opera from 2021 to 2024. Since then, he has worked as a freelance artist. In the 2024/25 season, he made his debut at Teatro La Fenice in Venice in the title role of Kurt Weill’s “Der Protagonist”. Recent engagements have included the role of Jim in Weill’s “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny” at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. At the Rome Opera, he made his debut in the title role of Janáček’s “The Diary of One Who Disappeared”, and he sang Erik in Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen. Further guest engagements have taken Koziorowski to the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl, the Aalto Theatre Essen, Dortmund Opera, the National Theatre Mannheim, the Dresden State Operetta, Bonn Opera and the Mainz State Theatre, as well as Teatro Regio di Parma and the theatres in Kiel, Heidelberg, Lübeck, Coburg, Bremen and Hagen. His extensive concert activities have taken him to venues including the Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, the Cologne and Essen Philharmonie, Berlin Cathedral and the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, as well as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Gewandhaus Leipzig. His wide-ranging repertoire includes roles such as Max in Weber’s “Der Freischütz”, Hoffmann in Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann”, Alfredo in Verdi’s “La traviata”, Hans in Smetana’s The “Bartered Bride”, the Prince in Dvořák’s “Rusalka”, Dmitri in Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov”, Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugen Onegin” and Stewa in Janáček’s “Jenůfa”, as well as Eisenstein in Johann Strauss II’s “Die Fledermaus”, the title role in Bernstein’s “Candide” and Danilo in Lehár’s “The Merry Widow”. His concert repertoire includes, among others, the tenor roles in Britten’s “War Requiem”, Dvořák’s “Stabat Mater”, Mendelssohn’s “Lobgesang”, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde” and Verdi’s “Requiem”.
At Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Matthias Koziorowski appeared as Prince Pao in Zemlinsky’s “Der Kreidekreis” during the 2024/25 season and will return to Duisburg in this role in the 2026/27 season.
