Nils Wanderer

The young countertenor Nils Wanderer is first prize winner of the German National Singing Competition 2022 and was the first and only German countertenor to win Placido Domingo's Operalia 2022. Following his Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, he sings, among others main roles in opera and oratorio at the Teatro Massimo Palermo, the Salzburg Festival, the Opera de Lille, the Berlin and Hanover State Operas, the Vatican in Rome and the Palace of Versailles, the Halle Händel Festival, the Barbican Centre London, the Philharmonie de Paris, the L'Auditori Barcelona under the direction of Kent Nagano, Jordi Savall, Christian Thielemann, David Bates, Patrick Lange and many more.
His most recent highlights include the world premiere of "Don't you Nomi?" at the Staatsoper Berlin, dedicated to the visionary German countertenor Klaus Nomi, Speranza ("L'Orfeo") and Edgar in Aribert Reimann's "Lear" at the Staatsoper Hannover as well as Tolomeo ("Giulio Cesare in Egitto") at the Frankfurt Opera and the Blackwater Festival in Dublin. He gives recitals and concerts with accompanists such as Daniel Heide and Marcelo Ameral.
With his own project "Wanderer between the Worlds", baroque music and electrodid sounds meet at eye level and go beyond the boundaries of serious music and light music. He also works closely with Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer from the band Rosenstolz, who wrote the role of the Angel of Death for their musical "Romeo and Juliet" at the Theater des Westens Berlin.
In 2024/25, he will be Artist in Residence at the Staatstheater Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and will be responsible for two new operas and a ballet world premiere as director, choreographer and soloist.
