Oliver Königsfeld studied business administration and musicology in Cologne and began exploring economic issues in musical theater while still a student, before joining the Deutsche Oper am Rhein during the 1992–93 season. Initially, he gained extensive experience in theater management as a personal assistant to the executive director.
In 1996.97, he became operations director and manager of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein ballet, led by Youri Vàmos. In addition to organizing numerous guest performances both in Germany and abroad, he developed sponsorship, merchandising, and marketing projects and institutionalized preventive and therapeutic physical therapy measures for the company. Following in the footsteps of Martin Schläpfer and Demis Volpi, he has now been supporting Ballet Director Raphaël Coumes-Marquet and Chief Choreographer Bridget Breiner as Operations Director since the 2024.25 season.
Oliver Königsfeld has served as executive director of the Ballet Friends’ Circle - which he founded in the fall of 1997 - ever since its inception and is responsible for organizing its extensive program of events. In addition to his work in Düsseldorf and Duisburg, he has also served as executive director of the Federal German Conference of Ballet and Dance Theater Directors (BBTK) since 1999.
