Mezzo-soprano Polina Artsis is known for her versatility as an artist and performer in various musical styles, from baroque to contemporary music. She studied at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar. She was a scholarship holder at the International Handel Academy Karlsruhe (baroque singing) and the Academia Vocalis Wörgl (opera and song interpretation) and has won numerous opera and song competitions.
Important stages in her career to date have been the Stadttheater Aachen, the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg, the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, the Tiroler Landestheater, the Stadttheater Gießen, and the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern. Polina Artsis has a special relationship with Baroque music: she has sung at the Winter in Schwetzingen festival, the International Handel Festival in Halle and Göttingen, the International Gluck Opera Festival in Nuremberg, and the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, among others.
Her repertoire includes roles such as Isabella (L'Italiana in Algeri), Angelina and Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Olga (Eugene Onegin), Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Baba the Turk and Mother Goose (The Rake's Progress), Mrs. Quickly (Falstaff), Ljubow (Mazeppa), Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti), Marcellina (The Marriage of Figaro), and Anita (West Side Story), as well as Handel roles such as Bradamante (Alcina), Amastre (Xerxes), Pulcheria (Riccardo primo), and Osmidas (Didone abbandonata). In the field of contemporary music, Polina Artsis gained experience with roles such as Lureen in the German premiere of Charles Wuorinen's “Brokeback Mountain,” Klothilde in the German premiere of “Ich, ich, ich!” by Raquel García-Tomás, Maria in the world premiere of “Der Steppenwolf” by Victor Åslund, and as the singer in the monodrama “The Raven” by Toshio Hosokawa.
