Samuel Sakker

In the 2025/26 season, Samuel Sakker will make important role and ensemble debuts, including the title role in the new production of "Tannhäuser" under the musical direction of Sir Mark Elder at the Grand Théâtre de Genève; Siegmund in "Die Walküre" at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein under the baton of Chief Conductor Vitali Alekseenok; Tristan in "Tristan und Isolde" under Omer Meir Wellber in his ensemble debut at the Hamburg State Opera; the Drum Major in "Wozzeck" at the Beijing Music Festival; and in a concert with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, the tenor will make his debuts at the Opéra de Nice, the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, and the Irish National Opera, and will return to the Royal Ballet & Opera, Covent Garden.
As winner of the Wagner Society's singing competition, Samuel Sakker's operatic highlights include Tristan ("Tristan und Isolde”, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Opéra National de Lorraine, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Opera Théâtre de Caen, Wuppertal Opera House); the title role in "Parsifal" (Stuttgart State Opera); "Tannhäuser" (Graz Opera); Florestan ("Fidelio") under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel (Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra); the title role in "Lohengrin" (Ópera de Oviedo); the Drum Major ("Wozzeck”, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen); Erik ("The Flying Dutchman”, Opéra Angers-Nantes, Opéra de Rennes, Nederlandse Reisopera, Cape Town Opera); Siegmund ("Die Walküre") and Pollione ("Norma") (Melbourne Opera); Boris and Tikhon ("Katya Kabanova," Scottish Opera). Don José (“Carmen”, Danish National Opera); Macduff in “Macbeth” (Grange Festival Opera; Melbourne Opera); and other roles at the Royal Opera House, Opera Australia, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Adelaide Festival, New Zealand Opera, Opera Queensland, Opera Holland Park, West Australian Opera, and the State Opera of South Australia.

On the concert stage, he sang “Tristan und Isolde”, Act 2 (Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra); Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde” (Klagenfurt City Theatre; National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland; Bolzano, Italy; Royal Ballet; English National Ballet); Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (Warsaw Philharmonic; Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra; Royal Philharmonic Orchestra); the title role in Lili Boulanger’s “Faust et Hélène” (Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra & BBC Symphony Orchestra); Verdi’s Messa da Requiem (Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand). Mozart's Requiem (Japan; Cadogan Hall); Handel's "Messiah" (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra); "A Child of Our Time" (Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra). James Nolan in the Grammy-nominated recording of "Dr. Atomic", which was also performed in concert at the Barbican under the direction of John Adams (BBC Symphony Orchestra); and Ulrik in William Alwyn's "Miss Julie" (BBC Symphony Orchestra; recorded on the Chandos label) with conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Sir Antonio Pappano, Gustavo Dudamel, Cornelius Meister, Alejo Pérez, Omer Meir Wellber, Alan Gilbert, Daniel Oren, Nicola Luisotti, Sakari Oramo, Hartmut Haenchen, James Gaffigan, Dan Ettinger, Vassilis Christopoulos, and Marc Minkowski.
