Syavash Rastani

Syavash Rastani is a multi-percussionist. Born in Tehran in 1986 and raised in Cologne, he began playing the tombak at the age of seven. He uses his instruments – the tombak, daf and kuzeh – both within the context of traditional Iranian music and across genres.
With his Armaos/Rastani Duo, he won the nationwide world music competition Creole in 2017. Since 2025, he has been a judge at Creole and at IFM e.V. in the field of world music. His CD with the early music ensemble Cembaless was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Prize and also for the Opus Klassik award.
Since 2014, he has been the curator, organiser and musician for his own world music concert series, SYA LIVE, in which 83 people from 28 nations have taken part to date.
