Timothy Oliver

American tenor Timothy Oliver, praised by the press for his ‘brilliant’ and ‘brightly radiant’ tenor voice as well as for the exceptional balance and beauty of his line, began the 2025/26 season with a return to the Semperoper Dresden as Spoletta in “Tosca”, followed by appearances as Monostatos in “The Magic Flute”. He also returns to the Komische Oper Berlin for Shostakovich's Die Nase and makes his house debut at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf as Monostatos in “The Magic Flute”.
During the 2024/25 season, Timothy made several important house debuts: his Italian debut at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa as Merkur in Strauss's “Die Liebe der Danae” under Fabio Luisi, his debut at the Zurich Opera House in the new Homoki production of “Ariadne auf Naxos” as Brighella, and his first appearance at the Hanover State Opera as Prince Arjuna in Philip Glass's “Satyagraha”.
Throughout his career, Timothy has sung leading and character roles at major venues, including the Komische Oper Berlin, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden – where he made his debut last season as the Young Servant in “Elektra” – as well as the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Oldenburg State Theatre, the Salzburg Easter Festival and the Bayreuth Festival. For thirteen years, the tenor was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden, where he performed around 70 roles in over 60 productions, including the Steersman (“Der fliegende Holländer”), Brighella, Scaramuccio and the Dance Master (“Ariadne auf Naxos”), Arbace (“Idomeneo”), Pedrillo (“Die Entführung aus dem Serail”) and Camille de Rosillon (“Die lustige Witwe”). His interpretation of the Second Soldier in Henze's We Come to the River was highlighted in the newspaper Die Welt as ‘the strongest vocal performance of the evening’.
A versatile artist equally at home in German, classical and contemporary repertoire, Timothy Oliver has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and has made guest appearances at the Vienna Musikverein, the Alte Oper Frankfurt and numerous international festivals.
Timothy Oliver is from Norfolk, Virginia, and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). He is a former member of the Ohio Light Opera, the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and the Central City Opera, where he was awarded the John Moriarty Prize.
