Stefan Klingele

Stefan Klingele, who studied conducting and cello at the Musikhochschule Würzburg, began his career as a repetiteur at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. He then moved to the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich as a conductor and in 1999 to the Theater Bremen as First Kapellmeister, where he received the Kurt Hübner Prize in 2006. In the 2006/07 season, the Bremen Theatre was voted Opera House of the Year by Opernwelt magazine with the 1967 Ingolstadt-born conductor as interim principal conductor. In addition, the winner of the Bavarian Advancement Award (1999) has made guest appearances with many theatres and orchestras, including regularly at the Stockholm, Dresden, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Vienna Volksoper and Komische Oper Berlin opera houses. At the Hanover State Opera, Luigi Nono's "Intolleranza 1960" (directed by Benedikt von Peter) was awarded a FAUST prize by the German Stage Association as the best music theatre production of the 2010/11 season, partly because of the orchestral arrangement over six levels and the resulting sound experience. The 2014 Dresden Music Festival's Feuersnot series was nominated for Best Richard Strauss Anniversary Performance at the Opera Awards London. After seven years as music director and chief conductor of the Musikalische Komödie in Leipzig, Stefan Klingele moved to the Theater Bremen in the same position in summer 2022.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Stefan Klingele will take over the musical direction of Abraham's "Fairy Tale in the Grand Hotel" in the 2023/24 season.
