Karolina Gumos
The Polish mezzo-soprano Karolina Gumos studied in Poznán and Berlin. She attended master classes with various singing professors and took part in many national and international radio and television productions. She is a prize winner of the international Ada Sari Singing Competition. In 2002, while still a student, she was engaged by the Dortmund Theatre, where she sang roles such as Zerlina ("Don Giovanni"), Fenena ("Nabucco"), Cherubino ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Olga ("Eugene Onegin") and Dorabella ("Così fan tutte"). In 2005/06 she was engaged by the Staatstheater Braunschweig, where she sang, among others. Nicklausse und Muse (Offenbach "Les Contes d' Hoffmann"), Ottavia (Monteverdi "L'incoronazione di Poppea"), the title roles in "Carmen" and "La Perichole", as well as the Strange Princess in "Rusalka" (Dvořák), the Fox in "Das schlaue Füchslein" (Janáček), Prince Charmant in "Cendrillon" (Massenet), Sextus (Mozart "La clemenza di Tito"), as well as the title role in the German premiere of Philippe Boesman's "Julie".
Since 2006/07 Karolina Gumos has been a member of the ensemble of the Komische Oper Berlin. Here she sings roles such as Octavian in "Der Rosenkavalier" (Strauss), Idamante in "Idomeneo" (Mozart) as well as Prince Orlofsky in "Die Fledermaus" (Strauss) and Dorabella in "Così fan tutte" (Mozart).
At the Ruhrtriennale 2012 she performed in "Europeras" by John Cage. Concert tours and guest appearances have taken her to Seville, Dresden, Hamburg and the Beseto Opera Seoul, Korea, among others. She has made guest appearances at festivals such as the Ruhrtriennale (F. Martin "Le vin herbé" 2008, Schönberg "Moses und Aron" 2009), the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, the Bergen Festival in Norway, the "Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg" and the Warsaw "Lutosławski Festival", the Munich Opera Festival ("Das Lied von der Erde" 2010) or the Händel Festival Karlsruhe. There she celebrated a particular success in 2011 as Rosmira in "Partenope".
Karolina Gumos has worked with renowned conductors such as Vladimir Jurowski, Peter Schneider, Peter Gülke, Friedermann Layer, Sebastian Weigle, Stefan Soltesz, Michael Boder, Michael Hofstetter, Ion Marin, Alexander Vedernikov, and opera directors such as Willy Decker, Stefan Vedernikov and Peter Gülke. Willy Decker, Stefan Herheim, Heiner Goebbels, Hans Neuenfels, Barrie Kosky, Damiano Michieletto, Marco Arturo Marelli, Christine Mielitz, Andreas Homoki, Udo Samel, Beverly Blankenship, Lucas Kindermann, Uwe Schwarz and Sebastian Baumgarten.
Guest appearances have taken the singer to the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Semperoper Dresden, the Staatsoper Hamburg, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Oper Frankfurt am Main, the BESETO Opera Seoul, the Hungarian State Opera Budapest, as well as through Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Scotland, Norway, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Macao, the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Her very broad concert repertoire includes Bach, Handel, Mozart, Rossini, Dvořák, as well as the Verdi Requiem and the works of Gustav Mahler. She has performed with them at the Berlin Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the CCC Belem in Lisbon, among others.
