Richard Šveda

Richard Šveda, born in Slovakia, studied in Bratislava and Graz. The baritone won various prizes at international singing competitions. After a year in the opera studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, he became a member of the local ensemble in the 2010/11 season. His repertoire includes the Mozart roles Don Giovanni, Il Conte Almaviva ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Papageno ("Die Zauberflöte") and Guglielmo ("Così fan tutte") as well as roles such as Marcello / Schaunard (Puccini "La Bohème"), Sharpless (Puccini "Madama Butterfly"), Escamillo (Bizet "Carmen"), Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky), Albert (Massenet "Werther"), Lord Cecil (Donizetti "Maria Stuarda"), Silvio (Leoncavallo "Pagliacci"), Dottore Malatesta (Donizetti "Don Pasquale"), Herr Fluth (Nicolai "The Merry Wives of Windsor"), Don Quixote (de Falla "Master Pedro's Puppet Show"), Barone Douphol (Verdi "La traviata"), Peter in Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel" and Frank/Fritz in Korngold's "Die tote Stadt". Richard Šveda also appears regularly on stage in the Wagner roles Gunther ("Götterdämmerung"), Kurwenal ("Tristan und Isolde") and Donner ("Das Rheingold").
Guest engagements have taken him to the Opéra Comique Paris, Vienna Volksoper, New Zealand Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Dortmund, Opéra de Montréal, the National Theatre Prague, Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Aalto Music Theatre in Essen and the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, as well as to Zurich Opera, among others.
In the 2023/24 season, Richard Šveda will interpret Alfio (Mascagni "Cavalleria rusticana"), Peter, Mandarin (Puccini "Turandot"), Lionel (Tchaikovsky "The Maid of Orleans"), Sharpless and Papageno at Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
