Alexander Sivaev
Born in Mokau in 1985, lighting designer Alexander Sivaev first worked as a lighting technician before furthering his training at the Russian Theatre Academy and the Nemirovich-Danchenko Studio at the Chekhov Artists' Theatre in Moscow. He then worked as an assistant to lighting designer Gleb Filschtinski.
Alexander Sivaev works across genres. He has worked internationally at renowned opera houses and especially at important Russian theatres and opera houses such as the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, Pushkin Theatre Moscow or the Novaya Opera in Moscow. With Stage Entertainment Company Russia, he has also lit major ice shows and musicals in Russia such as "The Sound of Music" (Rogers) "Cinderella" (Lloyd Webber) and "Zorro" (The Gipsy Kings/Cameron). In 2016 he was awarded the Golden Mask for his lighting design of Bulgakov's "The Escape". Alexander Sivaev regularly works with director Vasily Barkhatov for his new productions, including at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, the Saarland State Theatre in Saarbrücken, in Basel, Stockholm, the Theater an der Wien, the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, the Bregenz Festival and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. At the Hanover State Opera he was also responsible for the lighting and video design in Puccini's "Tosca".
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Alexander Sivaev presents his lighting design for Wagner's "Der fliegende Holländer", directed by Vasily Barkhatov.
