Susanna Goldberg

Guest Dramaturg
Susanna Goldberg studied German language and literature, comparative literature, and art history at the Leopold Franzens University in Innsbruck. The freelance dramaturge began her professional career with research projects, lectures and publications, especially on Austrian literature and visual arts of the 20th century. In addition to Karl Kraus, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Robert Musil, Georg Trakl, Heimito von Doderer, Ingeborg Bachmann and Oswald Wiener, the focus of her editorial and literary research was primarily on Fritz von Herzmanovsky-Orlando, for whose edition of Sämtliche Werke (Residenz Verlag Salzburg 1983 to 1994) she had conceived the editorial basis with her dissertation. From 1988 to 1995 Susanna Goldberg was a member of the Translators' Advisory Board at the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education and the Arts. A dramaturgical intermezzo at Vienna's Burgtheater (1988/89) marked the beginning of her transition from academia to theater. In 2001, she began working with Barrie Kosky as a co-author and dramaturg, initially focusing their shared interests on themes of Jewish cultural history. In 2015, Susanna Goldberg supervised Barrie Kosky's production of Schönberg's "Moses und Aron" at the Komische Oper Berlin as dramaturg. Their collaboration continued with Offenbach's "Orpheus in der Unterwelt".
