Wolfgang Wiechert

Wolfgang Wiechert graduated from the Cologne University of Music as a Kapellmeister with Prof. Volker Wangenheim and studied piano with Prof. Aloys Kontarsky. He began his professional career in 1992 as musical director of the Operettenvolksbühne Bergisch-Neukirchen in Leverkusen. From 1993 to 1996 he was solo répétiteur at the Krefeld Mönchengladbach Theatre and director of the municipal choirs there. He subsequently worked as a director of studies at the Münster Theatre and the Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe. Teaching assignments have taken him to the music academies of Münster, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and currently to Düsseldorf in the subject of accompaniment. He has also conducted concert opera performances and worked as an assistant with the SWR Vokalensemble, the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, the Stuttgart Philharmonic and the Kassel Opera House. In 2006 he conducted the world premiere of the chamber opera "Gretes Mahl" by Christopher Brandt and Bernd Schmitt at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. Since the 2012/13 season, Wolfgang Wiechert has been engaged as director of studies at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Here he has also performed as pianist in chamber music and song recitals as well as ballet recitals, for example Rossini's "Petite Messe solennelle" (b.32), Górecki's Piano Concerto op. 40 to van Manen's "Polish Pieces" (b.33) or Jooss' "Der Grüne Tisch" (b.34). He also took over the musical direction of "Alcina" (Handel), "La clemenza di Tito" (Mozart) and "Vissi d'arte". In the 2022/23 season, Wolfgang Wiechert will appear at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as pianist in Lied matinees, among others.
