So-Yeon Kim-von der Beck

Trained in Seoul, dancer So-Yeon Kim-Von der Beck came to Europe in 2005 to take part in Ballet Black, a ensemble project at London’s Royal Ballet. In 2007, she moved to Madrid, where she was engaged for two seasons with the Victor Ullate Ballet. Martin Schläpfer then engaged her for the Ballett am Rhein from the beginning of the 2009/10 season. She has since danced leading roles in ballets by Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, Regina van Berkel, August Bournonville, Martin Chaix, Nils Christe, Hubert Essakow, Antoine Jully, William Forsythe, Jirí Kylián, Hans van Manen, Mark Morris, Jerome Robbins, Teresa Rotemberg, Martin Schläpfer, Remus Şucheană, Twyla Tharp and Antony Tudor. After ‘Zahir’ (2016) and ‘49’ (2017), So-Yeon Kim-Von der Beck presented her third piece as a choreographer for Ballett am Rhein’s programme ‘Young Moves’ with ‘Rococo Variations’ in 2019. She recently danced in Twyla Tharp’s ‘Commentaries on the Floating World’ and in two works choreographed by Demis Volpi, appearing as the American Tourist in ‘Geschlossene Spiele’ and in the roles of the Grandmother and the Snow Queen in ‘The Nutcracker’.
