Maurice Lenhard

Maurice Lenhard first studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main and worked there primarily in contemporary productions with composers such as Péter Eötvös and Ari Benjamin Meyers. In 2015, the director and dramaturge studied music theatre directing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Since then, his directing work has been seen at the Stadttheater Aschaffenburg, in Rüsselsheim, at the Arena Leipzig, the Studiotheater Belvedere Weimar and the Kammeroper Köln, among others. Since 2018, he has also worked as a dramaturge and was also engaged as an assistant director and stage manager at the Stuttgart State Opera. His directorial work there included "Présence" by Bernd Alois Zimmermann at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and a mobile production of "The Soldier's Tale" by Igor Stravinsky, which was nominated for the OPUS KLASSIK Prize in the special category "Outstanding Creative Achievement during the Corona Crisis" in 2020. He had a close collaboration with the director Lydia Steier, which resulted in the concepts for "Salome" (R. Strauss) at the Opéra National de Paris and "Die Zauberflöte" (Mozart) for the Salzburg Festival, among others.
From 2020 to 2022 Maurice Lenhard was engaged as opera and ballet dramaturge at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he was responsible for directing Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia" in the 2021/22 season. Since the 2022/23 season, he has been artistic director of the opera studio at the Volksoper Wien and staged "Die Dreigroschenoper" (Brecht/Weill) as his directorial debut there.
