Ramona Zaharia

The Romanian mezzo-soprano Ramona Zaharia studied at the George Enescu College in Iasi. She is a laureate of numerous singing competitions. Her international career began at the Romanian National Opera in Timisoara, where she performed roles such as Zita (Puccini "Gianni Schicchi"), Marthe (Gounod "Faust"), Prince Orlofsky (J. Strauss "Die Fledermaus"), Fenena (Verdi "Nabucco"), Witch (de Falla "El amor brujo") or Princess of Boullion (Cilea "Adriana Lecouvreur"). Ramona Zaharia has been an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2014/15 season. Here, in addition to the title role in Bizet's "Carmen", she made her celebrated debut as Dalila (Saint-Saëns "Samson et Dalila"). She also sang Ulrica (Verdi "Un ballo in maschera"), 3. Dame (Mozart "The Magic Flute"), Maddalena (Verdi "Rigoletto"), Dinah (Bernstein "Trouble in Tahiti"), Eboli (Verdi "Don Carlo"), Floßhilde (Wagner "Das Rheingold" and "Götterdämmerung"), Erda (Wagner "Rheingold") and Santuzza (Mascagni "Cavalleria rusticana"). More recently, she has appeared here as the Princess of Boullion and Hèrodiade in Massenet's "Hérodiade".
Guest engagements have taken her to major opera houses including the Royal Opera House, Teatro Regio di Parma, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Hamburg as well as the National Opera Bucharest, Latvian National Opera in Riga and the Festival Opera in the Quarry St. Margarethen. She made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in the 2018/19 season as Maddalena.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein she will sing Eboli, 3rd Lady and again Olga in Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" in the 2023/24 season. In her parade role Carmen she will be a guest at the National Theatre Prague and the Latvian National Opera, where she will also be heard as Amneris (Verdi "Aida"). She will also appear as Maddalena at the Royal Opera House and the Teatro Real in Madrid.
