Katarzyna Kuncio

Soloist
The Polish-born mezzo-soprano Katarzyna Kuncio first studied singing in Poznan, then moved to Vienna to study with Walter Berry. She also attended master classes with Brigitte Fassbaender, Gundula Janowitz, Theo Adam and Ernst Haefliger, among others. In 1997 she won 1st prize at the Schubert Singing Competition in Osaka (Japan). From 1998 to 2004 Katarzyna Kuncio was engaged at the Bremerhaven City Theatre and has been an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2004/05 season. Here she has interpreted a wide range of roles, including Mozart's Cherubino ("Le nozze di Figaro") and Dorabella ("Così fan tutte"), Offenbach's Nicklausse ("Les Contes d'Hoffmann") and Orest ("La belle Helene") as well as Anna (Berlioz "Les Troyens"), Olga (Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin"), Hansel (Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel"), the Richard Strauss roles Octavian ("Der Rosenkavalier") and Composer ("Ariadne auf Naxos"). The Wagner roles Waltraute ("Die Walküre" and "Götterdämmerung"), Mary ("Der fliegende Holländer") and Fricka ("Das Rheingold" and "Die Walküre") are also part of her repertoire. In 2013/14 she debuted with great success as Charlotte ("Massenet Werther"). At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Katarzyna Kuncio was also recently seen as 3. Dame ("Die Zauberflöte"), Marcellina (Mozart "Le nozze di Figaro"), Juno (Offenbach "Orpheus in der Unterwelt"), Lovis (Arnecke "Ronja Räubertochter") and in the roles of Dangeville (Cilea "Adriana Lecouvreur"), Brigitta (Korngold "Die tote Stadt") and Teresa (Bellini "La sonnambula").
In the 2022/23 season she will sing Larina in the new production of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin", Annina in R. Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier" and will also be on stage again as Juno, Suzuki (Puccini "Madama Butterfly") and Brigitta.
