Marcel Brunner

The bass-baritone Marcel Brunner was born in 1992 in Bad Mergentheim in Tauber-Franconia. He first studied voice at the Mannheim University of Music with Prof. Snezana Stamenkovic. From 2016-2019 followed studies at the University of Music Karlsruhe in the class of Prof. Christiane Libor and Stephan Klemm. Master classes with Julia Varady, Michelle Breedt, Markus Eiche, Rudolf Piernay and Hartmut Höll, among others, complete his education. In university productions he has appeared on stage as Leporello in Mozart's "Don Giovanni", prison warden Frank in J. Strauss Sohn's "Die Fledermaus" and as Esteban in Hermann Reutter's opera "Die Brücke von San Luis Rey". Already during his studies he was engaged as a guest at the National Theater Mannheim and appeared as Deputato in Verdi's "Don Carlo" and as Third Player in Prokofiev's opera "The Gambler".
In February 2018 Marcel Brunner made his debut as Klingsor in the children's opera "Ritter Parceval" (Henrik Albrecht) with the Berliner Philharmoniker in the great hall of the Berlin Philharmonie. He was heard with the same role at the Baden-Baden Theater as part of the Baden-Baden Easter Festival in March 2018. Guest engagements have taken him to the Leipzig Opera, the Theater Bonn and the Stadttheater Klagenfurt. In concert and oratorio Marcel Brunner pursues an active concert career and sang with orchestras such as the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim or the Beethoven Academy Orchestra Krakow. From the 2018/19 season, the bass-baritone was an ensemble member in the opera studio of the National Theater Mannheim and moved to the opera ensemble there for the 2020/21 season.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Marcel Brunner will make a guest appearance in the 2022/23 season as Sagrestano in Puccini's "Tosca".
