Nelson López Garlo

Dancer
After graduating from the Escuela Nacional de Danza del Sodre in his native Uruguay, Nelson López Garlo completed further training in Buenos Aires before joining the young company Joven Ballet de Uruguay and, in 2009, the corps de ballet of Ballet Nacional del Sodre. In 2010 he moved to Argentina to join Iñaki Urlezaga’s Ballet Concierto, performing with the company on tour in cities such as Madrid, New York, Mexico City and Shanghai. In 2011, he returned to Uruguay to be part of the Ballet Nacional del Sodre under the new directorship of Julio Bocca, and remained with the company under his successor Igor Yebra. He danced there as member of the corps de ballet, as a soloist and a principal – in works by choreographers including George Balanchine, John Cranko, Jiří Kylián, Natalia Makarova, Nacho Duato, Ronald Hynd, Mauricio Wainrot and Kenneth MacMillan. In 2019, he designed the stage and costumes for the independent company Telón Arriba during their residency at Teatro Solís. Nelson López Garlo became a member of the Ballett am Rhein company at the beginning of the 2020/21 season, where he has since danced in Demis Volpi’s productions "Geschlossene Spiele", in the role of Senor Lopez, "The Nutcracker", in the roles of the Father, the Snow Queen’s Companion and der Meister in "Krabat". He has also danced in Twyla Tharp's "Commentaries on the Floating World", Brigdet Breiner's "North Country", "Phlegmatic Summer" by Michèle Anne de Mey and "Don't look at the jar" by Gil Harush.
