Adela Zaharia

The Romanian soprano Adela Zaharia graduated in voice and piano from the Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca. In 2010 she made her debut at the Romanian National Opera as Gilda (Verdi "Rigoletto"), followed by Norina (Donizetti "Don Pasquale"), Musetta (Puccini "La Bohème"), and Micaëla (Bizet "Carmen"). Following her studies, she was a member of the opera studio of the Komische Oper Berlin, where she subsequently became a permanent ensemble member from 2012 to 2014 and where she interpreted major leading roles such as Donna Anna (Mozart "Don Giovanni"). In 2012 she won the International Singing Competition "Hariclea Darclée" and in summer 2017 the prestigious "Operalia" competition of Plácido Domingo in two categories. Adela Zaharia has been an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since 2015/16. Here she has sung the title role in Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" - one of her signature roles - Pamina (Mozart's "The Magic Flute"), Donna Anna, Konstanze (Mozart's "The Abduction from the Seraglio"), Violetta Valéry (Verdi's "La traviata"), Gilda, Maria Stuarda (Donizetti) and Elvira (Bellini's "I puritani"). International guest engagements take her to the world's most important opera houses and concert halls, including the Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Los Angeles Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and the Munich Opera Festival, the Deutsche Oper and the Komische Oper in Berlin, De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Opéra Bastille, the Opéra Garnier in Paris, the San Francisco and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In the 2022/23 season, Adela Zaharia will make guest appearances at the Semperoper Dresden, the Opernhaus Zürich and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others. At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein she interprets the roles of Lucia di Lammermoor.
