Alexandra Stampler-Brown

Alexandra Stampler-Brown was born in Styria, Austria, has a law degree from the University of Vienna, along with achieving an MBA in Cultural Management with distinction from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, and is herself a musician, playing both the violin and piano.
After working in the Austrian court system and in private law firms, she lived in Indonesia from 1999 to 2001, where she worked as a business law consultant in one of the largest international law firms, and where she taught music and led string orchestras at the Jakarta International School.
In 2001 she moved from Jakarta to Edinburgh, Scotland, where, for 10 years, she worked broadly in the cultural industries, for Scottish theater sector, for arts festivals and in cultural marketing. Starting as a producer she gained experience in touring theater and festivals, and was responsible for management, finance, creative development, marketing, fundraising and human resources. Finally, in Scotland, as the General Manager of The Audience Business, she focused on audience development, data gathering & analysis, pricing and cultural marketing.
In 2011, Alexandra Stampler-Brown became Managing Director of the Stadttheater Klagenfurt - the primary regional theater for the Carinthia region in Austria. There she was responsible for all of the theater operations, producing and presenting programmes of opera, operetta, musicals, drama, ballet and concerts.
Since 2014, she has been Managing Director at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg, where she is responsible for management of the company operations and all commercial and building matters (including the finance, legal, human resources, sales, and capital projects). She has made a significant contribution to the development and maintenance of the building infrastructure and, as a user representative, helps to shape and develop the new opera house project in Düsseldorf. Organisational development and stakeholder management are important aspects of her role, and she initiated the first mission statement for the DOR.
Alexandra Stampler-Brown is very active in the international theater scene, often a welcome guest lecturer at universities and colleges, and an experienced discussion leader on international panels. She contributes her wide knowledge of cultural policy and practices as a member of numerous expert committees, advisory boards and commissions. She was a member of the board of Opera Europa, the umbrella organization of around 220 opera houses, from 2019 to 2025, is a member of its CEO Steering Group since 2025, plus a lecturer and mentor with their Opera Management Course. For the Deutscher Bühnenverein, from 2023 to 2025, she was Co-Chair of the Artistic Committee, and, since 2025, Co-Chair of the Administrative Directors Group and member of the Presidium.
