Alexandra Stampler-Brown

Managing Director
Born in Styria, Alexandra Stampler-Brown studied Law at the University of Vienna and is also a violinist. After working for the court system and in legal practice, she spent the period from 1999 to 2001 living in Indonesia, where she worked as a strings teacher at the Jakarta International School and as a consultant on commercial law for one of the country’s largest law firms. In 2001 she moved to Scotland for ten years, where she was awarded a distinction for her MBA in Cultural Management at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.
She was active in Scottish theatre in the field of general management from 2002 onwards, gaining experience of touring theatre, cultural marketing and fundraising, while also serving on the Advisory Board of the Federation of Scottish Theatre and as a board member of Magnetic North Theatre Company. Here she was responsible for audience development and data analysis for projects relating to new audiences, pricing policy and strategic marketing. As Managing Director of Stellar Quines Theatre Company in Edinburgh she negotiated co-productions with the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival among others.
In 2011 Alexandra Stampler-Brown was appointed Finance Director of Stadttheater Klagenfurt, the state theatre of Carinthia. Here she was responsible for theatre operations with both in-house and guest productions of opera, operetta, musicals, theatre, ballet and concerts.

Since the beginning of the 2014/15 season, she has been Managing Director of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where she is responsible for all commercial operations, financial planning, contracts and legal services, human resources, administration and organisation, sales and marketing, infrastructure and structural matters, business development and stakeholder management.

Alexandra Stampler-Brown has excellent contacts within the international theatre scene and much sought after as a visiting lecturer at universities and music academies. She contributes her professional expertise and interest in cultural policy to the numerous expert panels, advisory boards and commissions of which she is a member. She is a co-founder of the Council of the Arts for Düsseldorf and has been the co-ordinator of the TWIN (Top Women in NRW) network since 2017. Alexandra Stampler-Brown is a board member of Opera Europa, the umbrella organisation of around 220 opera houses, and has been Treasurer since May 2021. She continues to play chamber music and the piano regularly.
