Bert Kistner
The stage designer Bert Kistner was born in Berlin in 1929. His artistic career began after the war in the GDR, where he worked at the Berlin Academy of Fine and Applied Arts from 1946 to 1952. From 1952 to 1954 he worked at the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin, after which he moved to the Deutsches Theater Berlin, where he held a permanent position until 1958. Later he worked for drama, opera and ballet, mainly at various German theatres in Berlin, Heidelberg, Mainz, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and others. In 1978 he was awarded the Josef Kainz Medal. Some of his productions have remained on the repertoire to this day, such as "Der Rosenkavalier" (Strauss) directed by Otto Schenk.
