Bogdan Baciu

Bogdan Baciu studied at the Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca in his home country of Romania. The baritone, who has won several awards at international competitions, was a member of the opera studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the 2011/12 season and has been a member of the local ensemble since 2012/13. His repertoire includes roles such as Mozart's title role in ‘Don Giovanni’, Rossini's Figaro (‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’) and Dandini (‘La Cenerentola’), Donizetti's Dottore Malatesta ("Don Pasquale") and Enrico ("Lucia di Lammermoor"), Verdi's Ford ("Falstaff"), Rodrigo di Posa ("Don Carlo"), Renato ("Un ballo in maschera") and Giorgio Germont ("La Traviata") as well as Wagner's Gunther ("Götterdämmerung") and Heerrufer ("Lohengrin"). His frequently sung roles also include Escamillo (Bizet "Carmen"), Sharpless (Puccini "Madama Butterfly"), Mercutio (Gounod "Roméo et Juliette"), Belcore (Donizetti "L'elisir d'amore") and Harlequin (R. Strauss "Ariadne auf Naxos"). In the role of the Ghost Messenger (R. Strauss "Die Frau ohne Schatten"), he made guest appearances at the Verbier Festival under Valery Gergiev in 2019 and at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Munich State Opera under Kirill Petrenko in 2023. He has also appeared on stage as Marcello (Puccini "La bohème") at the Royal Opera House in London and at the Semperoper Dresden. Other guest engagements have taken him to opera houses in Strasbourg, Vilnius, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Venice, Bucharest and Armenia. He regularly appeared at the Romanian National Opera in Iași, Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Bogdan Baciu has recently appeared as Hérode (Massenet ‘Hérodiade’), Amfortas (Wagner "Parsifal") and in the title role of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin", among others. His roles for the 2024/25 season at his home theatre once again include Giorgio Germont, Eugene Onegin and Enrico. He will also interpret Filippo Maria Visconti in the concert performance of Bellini's "Beatrice di Tenda" and will make a guest appearance as Escamillo at Oper Leipzig, among others.
