Edgardo Rocha

The tenor Edgardo Rocha comes from Uruguay. He began his vocal training in Montevideo and continued it in Italy in 2008 with Salvatore Fisichella and Rockwell Blake. In 2010 he celebrated his acclaimed debut at the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca in the title role of Donizetti's "Gianni di Parigi", which was followed by numerous engagements at important opera houses in Italy. His career has taken him to the most important international opera houses in Vienna, Geneva, Verona, Barcelona, Zurich, Paris, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Dresden, the State Operas in Stuttgart, Munich and Hamburg, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia as well as the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and, among others, the Salzburg Festival, where he has been a regular guest since 2014. As a bel canto tenor, Rossini roles include Don Ramiro ("La Cenerentola"), Lindoro ("L'italiana in Algeri"), Conte dʼAlmaviva ("Il barbiere di Siviglia"), Iago ("Otello"), Alberto ("La gazzetta"), Dorvil ("La scala di seta"), Le Comte Ory ("Il turco in Italia"), Belfiore ("Il viaggio a Reims"), Giannetto ("La gazza ladra"), Uberto ("La donna del lago") as well as Ernesto (Donizetti "Don Pasquale"), Nadir (Bizet "Les Pêcheurs de perles"), Léopold (Halévy "La juive"), Arturo (Bellini "I puritani"), Riccardo Percy (Donizetti "Anna Bolena") or Roberto (Donizetti "Maria Stuarda"). In 2012 he embodied Don Ramiro in the opera film "La Cenerentola - Una favola in diretta" produced by Andrea Andermann (director: Carlo Verdone, musical director: Gianluigi Gelmetti). In 2017 and 2018 he performed this role alongside Cecilia Bartoli as Cenerentola on tour in Europe.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Edgardo Rocha will make a guest appearance in the 2022/23 season as Elvino in Bellini's "La sonnambula".
