The Polish mezzo-soprano Katarzyna Kuncio initially trained in Posen and then in Vienna with Walter Berry. She completed master courses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Gundula Janowitz, Theo Adam, Ernst Haefliger and others. In 1997 she won First Prize at the Schubert Vocal Competition in Osaka (Japan). While she was a student, the artist performed in several productions at the Vienna Kammeroper and the Vienna Volksoper.
From 1998 to 2004 Katarzyna Kuncio was engaged Stadttheater Bremerhaven. She has been an ensemble member at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since 2004/05. Her repertoire includes Mozart’s Dorabella (‘Così fan tutte’), Cherubino (‘Le nozze di Figaro’), 3rd Lady (‘Die Zauberflöte’), Offenbach’s Nicklausse (‘Les Contes d’Hoffmann’) and Orest (‘La belle Helene’), Anna (Berlioz ‘Les Troyens’), Olga (Tchaikovsky ‘Eugene Onegin’), Hänsel (Humperdinck ‘Hänsel und Gretel’), Strauss’s Octavian (‘Der Rosenkavalier’) and the Composer (‘Ariadne auf Naxos’), Waltraute (Wagner ‘Die Walküre’ and ‘Götterdämmerung’) and Fricka (Wagner ‘Das Rheingold’ and ‘Die Walküre’). In 2013/14 she made an extremely successful debut as Charlotte (Massenet ‘Werther’).
