Kim Holtappels

Mezzo-soprano Kim Holtappels was born in Neuss in 2001. She began her musical training at the age of nine with Gabriela Labanda in Meerbusch. She gained stage experience early on, both as a soloist and as part of ensembles and choirs. Her musical development was shaped, among other things, by her participation in the “Kronenburg Classes” with Martin Wölfel (countertenor) and Markus Fohr (conductor/piano), where she was the youngest participant in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
While still in school, she studied voice as a young student at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf from 2017 to 2019. After graduating from high school, she earned her Bachelor’s degree there from 2019 to 2024 and her Master’s degree from 2024 to 2026 in Classical Voice under Professor Konrad Jarnot, specializing in musical theater (opera) and concert performance. She gained her first stage experience in opera through various university productions, including as the Child in “L’enfant et les sortilèges” by Maurice Ravel (2023), the Drummer in “Der Kaiser von Atlantis” by Viktor Ullmann (2024), as well as Diana in “La Calisto” by Francesco Cavalli (2025) and Cherubino in “Le Nozze di Figaro” by W. A. Mozart (2026). The young mezzo-soprano consistently stood out for her great dramatic depth and the development of a consistent stage presence. In addition to her focus on opera, she moves with great ease and stylistic versatility between various musical genres such as musical theater and jazz, and is active as a concert singer.

Kim Holtappels has already performed in smaller solo roles at venues such as the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Theater Krefeld/Mönchengladbach, most recently at the DOR in the role of Fekluscha from Leoš Janáček’s opera “Katja Kabanova.” She has also performed at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, with the Bundeswehr Music Corps in Siegburg, and with the Young Philharmonic Orchestra of Lower Saxony (JPON), where she had the opportunity to collaborate with conductors such as Axel Kober and Christian Ludwig.
She received the Germany Scholarship for the 2023/2024 season, and since 2025 she has been represented by the Colla Voce Agency. In 2027, she will be a scholarship recipient of the Richard Wagner Association Düsseldorf.
