Armenian soprano Liana Aleksanyan is considered one of the outstanding lyric-dramatic voices of her generation. Since her European debut in 2005 as Manon Lescaut at the Norwegian National Opera, she has appeared on Europe's most important opera stages and is a permanent member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
As a Verdi and Puccini specialist, she has enjoyed international success in roles such as Cio-Cio San (Puccini's “Madama Butterfly”), which she has performed at La Scala in Milan, in Hamburg, Valencia, Florence, and Buenos Aires, among other venues. Other highlights include title roles in “Tosca”, “Adriana Lecouvreur”, “Luisa Miller”, and the Contessa in “Le nozze di Figaro”.
In the 2023/24 season, she appeared as Micaëla (Bizet’s “Carmen”) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, as well as the Marschallin (Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier”) and in “Don Carlo” in Düsseldorf. The 2024/25 season saw her perform Tatjana in “Eugene Onegin” and Tosca in Leipzig and at the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich.
Role debuts for the 2025/26 season at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein include Chrysothemis (R. Strauss' “Elektra”) and Balkis in Gounod's “Die Königin von Saba”. She will also reprise the title role in Puccini's “Tosca”.
