Martin Chaix is an internationally renowned choreographer whose work has been performed by major ballet companies in Europe and Asia. In 2024, he was nominated for the prestigious Prix Benois de la Danse award for his production of “Giselle” for the Ballet de l'Opéra national du Rhin.
His clients include the Bolshoi Ballet, the Liaoning Ballet in China, the Ballet de l'Opéra national du Rhin, the Ballett am Rhein, the Leipzig Ballet, the Staatstheater Cottbus Ballet, the Croatian National Theater Ballet in Split and Rijeka, and the Vienna State Ballet.
With a special commitment to the next generation, he has also created works for the École de l'Opéra national de Paris, the KK Youth Project in Tokyo, the Austin Dance Theatre in Australia, and the Gymnasium Essen-Werden in Germany.
Trained at the École de Danse de l'Opéra National de Paris (1993–1999), Chaix danced with the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris and the Leipzig Ballet before joining the Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg as a soloist under the direction of Martin Schläpfer from 2009 to 2015. During his fifteen-year dance career, he performed works by Balanchine, Bausch, Cunningham, Ek, Goecke, Kylián, Lock, Neumeier, and Schläpfer, among others. Since 2015, he has worked as a full-time freelance choreographer.
His connection to the Ballett am Rhein spans both his time as a dancer and as a choreographer—with “We were right here!!” (2013) and “Atmosphères” (2019).
