The director and dramaturge Maurice Lenhard first studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main and worked there primarily in contemporary productions with composers such as Péter Eötvös and Ari Benjamin Meyers. In 2015 he studied music theatre directing at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre (Theatre Academy). Since then, his directing work has been seen at the Stadttheater Aschaffenburg, in Rüsselsheim, at the Arena Leipzig, the Studiotheater Belvedere Weimar and the Kammeroper Köln, among others. Since 2018, he has also worked as a dramaturge and was also engaged as an assistant director and stage manager at the Stuttgart State Opera. His directorial work there included "Présence" by Bernd Alois Zimmermann at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and a mobile production of "The Soldier's Tale" by Igor Stravinsky, which was nominated for the Opus Klassik Prize in the category "Outstanding Artistic Achievement in Pandemics" in 2020. He also has a close collaboration with the director Lydia Steier, whom he accompanied to various productions at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Salzburg Festival, among others.
From 2020 to 2022, Maurice Lenhard was engaged as opera and ballet dramaturge at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he was also responsible for directing Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia in the 2021/22 season. From the 2022/23 season he will take over as Artistic Director of the newly founded Opera Studio at the Volksoper Wien.
