Richard Šveda

Richard Šveda, born in Slovakia, studied in Bratislava and Graz. He has won various prizes at international singing competitions. After a year at the opera studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, he became a member of the ensemble. His repertoire here includes several roles. Guest engagements have taken him to the Opéra Comique Paris, Vienna Volksoper, Semperoper Dresden, Dortmund Opera, Opéra de Montréal, Zurich Opera, the National Theater in Prague, Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, Shanghai Grand Theater, Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen, the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava, the Staatstheater in Nürnberg, and New Zealand.


In the 2026/27 season, alongside the role of Tschang-Ling in the premiere of “Der Kreidekreis” (Zemlinsky), his roles will include Papageno (Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte”), Peter (Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel”) and Sharpless (Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. In the family opera “Die verzauberte Stadt” (Penderbayne), he will also take on the roles of Peter, Jack-in-the-Box and Pirate Ken, and will likewise participate in a “Rendezvous at half past seven”, where opera meets electro beats.
