Sophia Theodorides

German-Greek coloratura soprano Sophia Theodorides will appear as the Queen of the Night in “The magic flute” during the 2025/26 season at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, the Staatstheater Nürnberg, the Theater Bern and the Saarpolygon Opera Festival. She will also perform this role in China with the Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, she will make her role debut as Konstanze (“The Abduction from the Seraglio”) at the Theater Trier, where she will also perform as Violetta (“La Traviata”). She will sing Violetta again at the Theater Osnabrück and return to the Theater Lübeck in the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor. Further engagements have taken her to Zurich Opera House (“Lucia di Lammermoor”), the German National Theatre in Weimar (Violetta), Opera North Leeds (Leila – “Les Pêcheurs de Perles”), the Aalto Theatre in Essen (Lucia di Lammermoor, Queen of the Night), the Volksoper Wien (Olympia – “The Tales of Hoffmann”), the Oper Leipzig, the Dutch Reisopera, the Staatstheater Nürnberg, the Staatsoperette Dresden and the Staatstheater Braunschweig (Queen of the Night), the Theater Bonn (Adele – “Die Fledermaus”, The Controller – “Flight” and “Carmina Burana”), the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf (Lucia di Lammermoor, Adele, Marie – “La Fille du Régiment”), and the Mainz State Theatre (Sophie – “Der Rosenkavalier”).
For her role debut as Lucia di Lammermoor at the Osnabrück Theatre, Sophia Theodorides was nominated as Singer of the Year by Opernwelt magazine in 2022. Her portrayal of Olympia at the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck was awarded the Austrian Music Theatre Prize.
Previous successes include reaching the final of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition and winning first prize at the International Singing Competition of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg.
Before becoming a freelancer in 2021, Sophia Theodorides was a member of the ensemble at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe from 2019 to 2021 and at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck from 2016 to 2019. Her repertoire there included roles such as Zerbinetta (“Ariadne auf Naxos”), Philine (“Mignon”), Oscar (“Un ballo in Maschera”), Italian Singer (“Capriccio”), Amor (“Orphée et Euridice”), Maria (“West Side Story”), Ännchen (“Der Freischütz”) and Olympia (“The Tales of Hoffmann”).
Sophia Theodorides studied singing with Sophia Bart and Ks. Jeanne Piland at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf. She attended masterclasses with Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Marga Schiml and Edita Gruberova, among others. While still a student, she made her stage debut at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as the Princess in Felix Lange's “Die Schneekönigin”.
