Stephan Müller

Stephan Müller, born in 1951, studied dance, performance, and directing in New York.
Starting in 1978, he directed the LABOR at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Beginning in 1981, he worked as a freelance director in Europe, China, and the U.S. From 1988 to 1992, he was resident director under Frank Baumbauer at the Theater Basel. From 1992 to 1999, he was the director of the Neumarkt Theater in Zurich (together with Volker Hesse). From 1999 to 2005, he worked as a dramaturg and director at the Burgtheater in Vienna; beginning in 2005, he served as a professor of directing in Zurich (ZHDK) and increasingly took on projects for the opera as a director, dramaturg, and consultant. Starting in 2010, Stephan Müller also produced site-specific theater projects on MAO (Chengdu, China), Max Frisch (Zurich), and Joseph Beuys (Kassel). Since 2020, he has been collaborating closely with the American director Daniel Kramer.
