Hans-Peter König

Kammersänger Hans-Peter König studied singing at the Dortmund Academy of Music. The bass was then a member of the International Opera Studio at the Zurich Opera House. His first engagements took him to various German opera houses. Since the 2001/02 season he has been a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. In addition, he has made guest appearances at all the major stages in Germany and abroad, including the Munich and Vienna State Operas, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Metropolitan Opera New York, La Scala in Milan and at the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals. The great bass roles of opera literature form his broad repertoire: Rocco in Beethoven's "Fidelio", Sarastro and Osmin in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" and "The Abduction from the Seraglio", Aquarius in Dvorák's "Rusalka" and the title role in "Boris Godunov" (Mussorgsky) are as much a part of his repertoire as, for example, the Verdi roles of Zaccaria in "Nabucco", Il Grande Inquisitore and Filippo II. in "Don Carlo" or Pater Guardian in "La forza del destino". In his speciality, the works of Richard Wagner, Pogner "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg", Gurnemanz "Parsifal", King Heinrich "Lohengrin", King Marke "Tristan und Isolde", Fasolt, Fafner, Hunding and Hagen ("Der Ring des Nibelungen") are among his most sung roles.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Hans-Peter König was most recently seen in Wagner's works as König Marke ("Tristan und Isolde") and Hunding ("Die Walküre") Daland ("Der fliegende Holländer"). In the 2023/24 season he will interpret Il Grande Inquisitore and Gurnemanz here.
