They perform at the Tonhalle and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, they make guest appearances in cities across Europe and Asia, they are brilliant at large-scale symphonies with a subtle ensemble sound, they play for children and young people and are strong supporters of generations to come: the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker are the very heart of music in Düsseldorf and a global ambassador for the city.
Concert tours in recent years have taken the orchestra to Spain and Japan, and there have been guest performances at venues in Moscow, Budapest, at the Musikverein in Vienna and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. A new Spanish tour is currently planned for the 2021/2022 season.
Since 2015 the Symphoniker have been led by their Principal Conductor Adam Fischer. Their recording of the collected symphonic works of Gustav Mahler under Fischer’s direction for the AVI label in co-operation with Deutschlandfunk was completed in March 2020. Two CDs from this cycle won awards in 2019, with their recordings of the First Symphony winning the BBC Music Award and the Third Symphony winning an Opus Klassik Award. For the 2021/2022 season there will be a change in the role of Principal Guest Conductor: after five years, Alexandre Bloch passes on the baton to Alpesh Chauhan.www.tonhalle.de
