The Romanian baritone Bogdan Baciu trained at the Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca. He has won numerous prizes in international competitions. He joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s Opera Studio in 2011/12 and has been a full member of the singing ensemble since 2012/13. His repertoire includes parts such as Mozart’s Papageno (‘Die Zauberflöte’) and Don Giovanni, Rossini’s Figaro (‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’) and Dandini (‘La Cenerentola’), Donizetti’s Dottore Malatesta (‘Don Pasquale’) and Enrico (‘Lucia di Lammermoor’), Verdi’s Falstaff and Marquis Posa (‘Don Carlos’), Wagner’s Gunther (‘Götterdämmerung’) and The Herold (‘Lohengrin’), Puccini’s Marcello (‘La Bohème’), Sharpless (‘Madama Butterfly’) and Ping (‘Turandot’) as well as Escamillo (Bizet ‘Carmen’), Mercutio (Gounod ‘Roméo et Juliette’) and Harlequin (Richard Strauss ‘Ariadne auf Naxos’). Touring performances have taken him to the opera houses in Strasbourg, Vilnius, Dresden, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Frankfurt. In July 2019 he sang the Messenger (Richard Strauss ‘Die Frau ohne Schatten’) under Valery Gergiev at the Verbier Festival. He was scheduled to make his debut at the Royal Opera House in London in April 2020 as Silvio (Leoncavallo ‘Pagliacci’), however, this production was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.
