The tenor Ovidiu Purcel trained at the Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) and won numerous prizes in national competitions. His current repertoire includes roles such as Tamino (Mozart ‘Die Zauberflöte’), Don Ottavio (Mozart ‘Don Giovanni’), Fenton (Nicolai Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor’), Nemorino (Donizetti ‘L’elisir d’amore’), Fenton (Verdi ‘Falstaff’), Alfredo Germont (Verdi ‘La traviata’) and Rinuccio (Puccini ‘Gianni Schicchi’). Guest performances have taken him to cities including Cluj (National Opera) Dortmund (Theater Dortmund), Paris (Pallais Garnier), Prague (Estates Theater), Montreal (Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal).
Ovidiu Purcel was a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s Opera Studio in 2011/12, and he has been a member of the full ensemble since 2012/13 being heard as Edgardo (Donizetti ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’), Duca di Mantova (Verdi ‘Rigoletto’), Roméo (Gounod ‘Roméo et Juliette’) and as Don Ottavio, Tamino, Fenton, Rinuccio, Nemorino and Alfredo.
Ovidiu Purcel made his debut at the Bregenz Festival in 2021 as the Duca di Mantova (Verdi ‘Rigoletto’).
