Goyo Montero

Goyo Montero trained with Carmen Roche, at the Royal Conservatory of Professional Dance in Madrid, and at the Cuban National Ballet School. He was principal dancer at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and soloist at the Leipzig Opera, the Wiesbaden State Theater, and the Royal Ballet of Flanders.
As a choreographer, he has created works for Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, the Royal Ballet London, the Birmingham Royal Ballet, the Zurich Ballet, the State Ballet Hannover, the Perm Opera Ballet/Diana Vishneva Context Festival, the National Ballet Sodre, the Compañia Nacional de Danza, Acosta Danza, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the National Ballet of Cuba, among others. From 2008 to 2025, Goyo Montero was director and chief choreographer of the Nuremberg State Theater Ballet. His choreographies for the Nuremberg State Theater Ballet include 25 world premieres. Since 2019, Goyo Montero has also been resident choreographer of the Acosta Danza company. He has been honored with the Villa de Madrid Prize, the Villanueva Prize, the Teatro de Madrid Prize, the Spanish Ministry of Culture's Premio Nacional de Danza, the Bavarian Culture Prize, the German Dance Prize, and the Pro meritis scientiae et litterarum from the Bavarian State Minister of Science and the Arts. In 2024, the Bavarian Minister-President honored Goyo Montero for his outstanding services to the Free State of Bavaria.
Since the beginning of the 2025/26 season, Goyo Montero has been ballet director of the State Ballet Hannover.
