Marwin Wendt

Opera Director
Marwin Wendt, born in Mannheim-Neckarau, studied musicology and German language and literature at the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg. During his studies, he gained his first practical theatre experience in the field of musical theatre directing and acting through guest assistantships and work shadowing, and received his first permanent engagement as assistant director, evening manager and director at the Theater Vorpommern in Stralsund/Greifswald, after which he worked as an editor at the theatre publishing house Mykenae Verlag Rossberg KG and as a freelancer in the publishing sector at Delius Producing Berlin (Musik-Brockhaus) and was involved in setting up the internet portal www.theaterportal.de.

After working as an employee and scheduler in the artistic operations office of the Hanover State Opera from 2002, he became head of the artistic operations office of the Stuttgart State Opera in 2006.

In 2010, still under Andreas Homoki, he moved to the Komische Oper Berlin as Chief Scheduler and prepared the transition to Barrie Kosky's directorship, which he accompanied for a further four years.
From 2016 - 2020, Marwin Wendt was Opera Director and Deputy Opera Director at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.

He was appointed Opera Director at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg for the 2020/21 season. Marwin Wendt has been part of the management team as Acting Artistic Director since April 2025.
