With the ensemble since 2020/21
Voice type: Baritone
Born in Czechia in 1990, Roman Hoza studied in Brünn and Vienna and took part in various masterclasses. In 2014, he participated in the Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival and the opera studio of the Opéra National de Lyon. Hoza was a member of the opera studio at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in 2015. In the same year, he made his debut at the National Theatre in Prague as Mozart's Figaro and remained a regular guest. Since 2016, he has been a member of the ensemble at the National Theater in Brünn, where he has performed in many key roles in the baritone repertoire. Guest engagements have taken him to Caen, Lyon, Gothenburg, Cologne, Kaiserslautern, and Nuremberg. In 2019, the baritone returned to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, first as a guest and then as a permanent member of the ensemble.
His rich concert repertoire includes works such as “Carmina Burana”, Dvořák's “Te Deum”, and Haydn's “Schöpfung und Jahreszeiten”. In 2023, he performed Dvořák's “The Spectacular Bride” in Rome with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under the baton of Jakub Hrůša. Roman Hoza is also a sought-after interpreter of Baroque music and songs (Bach, Händel, and many more).
In the 2025/26 season, he will interpret the Nurse of Orest (R. Strauss' “Elektra”), Achilla (Händel's “Giulio Cesare in Egitto”), Kuligin (Janáček's “Katja Kabanova”) and, once again, Dandini (Rossini's “La Cenerentola”), Mottel (Bock's “Anatevka”), Papageno (Mozart's “Die Zauberflöte”) and Moralès (Bizet's “Carmen”).
