Izabela Matula

The Polish soprano Izabela Matula completed her vocal studies at the Academy of Music in Krakow. In addition to her studies, she attended numerous master classes and won prizes at international competitions. In 2010 she made her German debut as Liù (Puccini "Turandot") at the Staatstheater Saarbrücken and was an ensemble member at the Theater Krefeld and Mönchengladbach from 2012 to 2018. Her repertoire includes roles such as Contessa Almaviva (Mozart "Le nozze di Figaro"), Amelia (Verdi "Un ballo in maschera"), Mimì (Puccini "La Bohème"), the main roles in Puccini's "Tosca" and "Suor Angelica", Antonia (Offenbach "Les Contes d'Hoffmann"), Rosalinde (J. Strauss son "Die Fledermaus"), Elsa (Wagner "Lohengrin"), Ellen Orford (Britten "Peter Grimes"), Leonora (Verdi "Il trovatore"), Die Tochter (Hindemith "Cardillac"), Cio-Cio-San (Puccini "Madama Butterfly"), Wally (Catalani "La Wally") and Katja Kabanova (Janáček). Guest appearances have taken Izabela Matula to Krakow as Micaëla (Bizet "Carmen"), to Warsaw as Desdemona (Verdi "Otello"), to Bergen as Lauretta (Puccini "Gianni Schicchi"), to Bilbao as Mimì and to Palermo as Dorotka (Weinberger "Schwanda der Dudelsackpfeifer"), among others. Further stations of her career are the National Theater Mannheim, Theater an der Wien, Landestheater Linz, the State Theaters Nuremberg, Braunschweig and Darmstadt, the Vienna Chamber Opera, the Theater Dortmund and, among others, the Frankfurt Opera. She is also internationally successful as a concert singer: her repertoire ranges from Bach and Beethoven to Mahler, Shostakovich and works by contemporary composers - numerous recordings attest to her wide-ranging output.Izabela Matula was first heard at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the 2017/18 season as Tosca; last season she made a guest appearance here as Micaëla and returns again in the 2022/23 season as Tosca.
