Tenor Ovidiu Purcel studied at the Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) and won numerous prizes at national competitions. His current repertoire includes roles such as Tamino (Mozart "The Magic Flute"), Don Ottavio (Mozart "Don Giovanni"), Fenton (Nicolai "The Merry Wives of Windsor"), Nemorino (Donizetti "L'elisir d'amore"), Fenton (Verdi "Falstaff"), Alfredo Germont (Verdi "La traviata") and Rinuccio (Puccini "Gianni Schicchi"). Guest appearances have taken him to Cluj (National Opera), the Opéra Garnier in Paris, the Dortmund Theatre and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. In 2011 Ovidiu Purcel became a member of the Opera Studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and has been a permanent member of the ensemble since the 2012/13 season. In Düsseldorf and Duisburg he has appeared as Edgardo (Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor"), Duca di Mantova (Verdi's "Rigoletto"), Roméo (Gounod's "Roméo et Juliette") and Macduff (Verdi's "Macbeth"), as well as Don Ottavio, Tamino, Fenton, Rinuccio, Nemorino and Alfredo. In 2021 Ovidiu Purcel made his debut at the Bregenz Festival as Duca di Mantova (Verdi "Rigoletto"). In the 2022/23 season he will be on stage at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Pinkerton (Verdi "Madama Butterfly"), Alfred (Strauss "Die Fledermaus"), Edgardo and in the 5th Haniel Klassik Open Air.
