Orazio Di Bella

Italian dancer Orazio Di Bella trained at Elmhurst Ballet School (associated with the Birmingham Royal Ballet), completing his diploma in 2011. While still a student, he gained his first stage experience with appearances at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, the Hungarian Youth Dance Festival in Budapest and on several tours with the Birmingham Royal Ballet and was able to work on leading works of the classical repertoire – including parts in ‘Swan Lake’ (Ashton), 'Slaughter on 10th Avenue’ (Balanchine), ‘Napoli’ (Bournonville), ‘Elite Syncopations’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’ (MacMillan), ‘La Bayadère’ (Petipa) and ‘Coppélia’ (Wright). From 2011 to 2015 he performed solo roles in works by choreographers including Nacho Duato, Vladimir Malakhov, Vasily Medvedev, Massimo Morricone, Marius Petipa, Uwe Scholz and Youri Vámos for companies including the Slovak National Ballet and the Teatro Massimo Palermo. In 2015, he became a member of the Hanover State Opera Ballet Company where he danced in pieces by Ballet Director Jörg Mannes and works choreographed by Jirí Bubenícek, Nils Christe, Georg Reischl and Yaron Shamir.

Since the 2018/19 season, Orazio Di Bella has been a soloist with the Ballett am Rhein and has performed in choreographies by Hans Van Manen, John Neumeier, Jiří Kylián, Uwe Scholz, William Forsythe, David Dawson, George Balanchine, Flemming Flindt, Martin Schläpfer, Twyla Tharp, Aszure Barton, Sharon Eyal, Andrey Kaydanovskiy, and many others.

Among his most significant leading roles are several iconic works in the contemporary and classical ballet repertoire. He performed as the lead in "Dances with Piano" and as Principal in "Four Schumann Pieces", both choreographed by Hans Van Manen. His repertoire also includes "Forgotten Land" by Jiří Kylián, as well as William Forsythe’s groundbreaking works "One Flat Thing, Reproduced" and "Enemy in the Figure". He has danced major Balanchine roles, including the Principal in "Square Dance", the Melancholic in "The Four Temperaments", and the Principal in "Rubies". Additionally, he appeared in Uwe Scholz’s "Seventh Symphony", danced the role of the Teacher in Flemming Flindt’s "The Lesson".
